From time-to-time, I write or speak about Tikkun Olam, the Jewish concept of Repairing, or Healing, the World. With all the issues swirling these days about ecoresponsibility, global warming, etc., I find it refreshing when responsible Christian leaders come forth and attempt to help those of us in the church think theologically about God's Mission and whether or not we're working in harmony with it, or off on some tangent of our own.
Rev. Daniel Vestal writes compellingly about Missio Dei and gives us much to consider, both in adjusting attitudes and in adjusting behavior. CLICK HERE to read his article.

Oh Ron. Serendipity abounds here today. Greg and I just attended (Tuesday June 9) a FANTASTIC one day seminar put on at the Community Presbyterian Church in Lac du Flambeau,WI. The session was led by a Northland College Professor and UCC minister, Professor David Saetre. The session was based around the book A New Climate for Theology: God, the World and Global Warming by Sallie McFague. Greg and I were wowed (my new favorite adjective). The book is not for the faint hearted...this is a book on theology and mentions John Crossan several times. Our speaker also threw out Marcus Borg's name a few times during his talk. So we began to feel "at home". The idea that is our Christian duty to attend to "climate change" because the world is God's home and our home. And because of the lifestyles we have chosen...this home is not going to last. Sallie feels that we have to begin to make the environment and caring for the earth more of a central message in the church now. And she argues for a fresh look at how we envision who God is and how we should respond to that vision.
Other references, David made were to the Will Steger Foundation www.willstegerfoundation.org and to author Bill McKibben. See 350.org
It was also a day in which David made some interesting references to how Islam and the environment go together. Ah..for another day.
